WiLS is excited to announce the next WiLSWorld Short, quarterly, free webinars to continue the learning that happens at WiLSWorld all year long! These webinars are designed to do all the same things as WiLSWorld – connect our member community around important issues, foster the exchange of ideas, and help members form professional connections and collaborations to get done what they need to get done.
Our next upcoming WiLSWorld Short features special guests from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Credo Reference who will present about research student misconceptions in information literacy and strategies for overcoming them. The webinar will be held on Thursday, September 14th at 1:00 pm.
In any domain of learning, it is helpful to anticipate common student misconceptions, and design instruction to correct them. Recognizing that no systematic investigation has been done into misconceptions around information literacy, Lisa Hinchliffe of the University of Illinois–Urbana Champaign and Credo Reference have partnered to explore this area and provide a foundational list of predictable misunderstandings. This project draws upon data from the recent Library Journal & Credo survey of librarians, as well as focus groups and interviews. In this webinar, Hinchliffe will explain the methodology behind the research, discuss initial findings, and share strategies libraries can utilize to correct student misconceptions.
Register to attend this free webinar and we hope to see you there!
