Jamie's Meeting July 21, 2020 (12:53 PM) Brandon: How could a dog not love to groove to this beat!? (12:55 PM) Granton Library: good afternoon everyone (1:00 PM) APL- Dominic: good afternooon (1:01 PM) APL- Dominic: anoyone else signed up for Tech days yet? I was wondering Why WVLs wasn't in the loist fro "Mind the Gap" (1:01 PM) Minocqua Library: planning on signing up Dominic (1:02 PM) Teresa: I wondered the same thing. Actually there were 2 sessions that WVLS wasn't listed. (1:04 PM) Laurie: Love Canva!! (1:05 PM) Janay: Jamie do you have a screen to share or just camera? (1:06 PM) Janay: its all good (1:09 PM) Anne Kuipers: sound is not working (1:09 PM) Anne Kuipers: I'll type it up in a bit (1:10 PM) Demmer Library: No - can't hear Dominic (1:10 PM) Virginia: Yes! (1:10 PM) Demmer Library: Can hear you now! (1:14 PM) Brandon: Staff Morale-We talk over every idea or activity we want to do then see how we do it safely and keep or patrons interested in the library (1:15 PM) Brandon: One week at a time, best meothod (1:17 PM) Virginia: There is a high degree of emotional work--even if its not acknoledged. (1:17 PM) Anne Kuipers: I've been trying myself to remain positive and upbeat, and keeping my staff up to date on all incoming information. I've been trying to have a weekly Friday update on what will be coming in the next week. Personally I'm doing okay-ish, not great, but I've always had anxiety, so there's nothing I haven't dealt with before. I foresee us going into the next year similarly; however, I also see me fighting with my board to keep safety procedures long-term. There is a large proportion of my board who don't think caution is needed. (1:17 PM) APL- Dominic: I agree- it's emotional exhaustion. (1:18 PM) Virginia: I'm actually staying away from staff today because I cannot be upbeat today. (1:18 PM) Virginia: And I am positive as can be during interactions (1:19 PM) Anne Kuipers: Also dealing with the basement flooding didn't help us with moral. (1:19 PM) Virginia: And forgiving. People are just as stressed as we are, stuff gets dropped and messed up. Being on all the time is exhausting (1:20 PM) Janay: Being a new director, I am still trying to "get to know" my staff better. Kathy and I are here pretty much everyday together and I am so thankful for her and her expertise and advice! We are doing fine staying positive. Our patrons are all great and happy we are open so that helps when our spirits get down! We are good taking one day at a time! (1:20 PM) Virginia: Rhinelander was lucky--this weekend no storm damage. Last Thursday it was coming through the window and door seals--and through a wall! (1:21 PM) Anne Kuipers: Thorp's was through a basement vent. No one told me that it was a massive issue. It missed our servers by a few feet. (1:23 PM) Demmer Library: Huge empathetic hugs for basement flooding!!! (1:24 PM) Demmer Library: I'm so sorry. You're reminding me again to be grateful for (mostly) dry buildings (1:24 PM) Demmer Library: And Katie reminds us to be grateful we're not teachers - we've already been through the craziest decision-making times (1:33 PM) Demmer Library: Peggy - take away the chairs (1:34 PM) Virginia: Peggy--can the PD do a walkthrough? (1:34 PM) Demmer Library: If they can't sit down, they can't stay. (1:34 PM) Virginia: I would agree, fewer chairs. (1:35 PM) Demmer Library: They tug on our doors, too. We keep the lights off and ignore them. (1:35 PM) APL- Dominic: taking the chairs away is key. (1:36 PM) Demmer Library: If they can't abide by 30 minutes, they don't get chairs. (1:37 PM) Virginia: Umn, my kids are taking the car into town, parking it and having their meeting. (1:37 PM) Joshua Klingbeil: WVLS member libraries have access to Pharos timing software which might be helpful for PC access time limits and automated vs human-initiated enforcement. (1:37 PM) Demmer Library: We've had to say no a lot, too. (1:37 PM) Virginia: Its hard saying no, but absolutely necessary to be consistant to prevent favoritism. (1:37 PM) Demmer Library: But we don't want to shut off wi-fi access to users after 30 minutes if they're outside where they belong. (1:38 PM) Virginia: I think thats more for the public pcs (1:38 PM) Teresa: if they can't abide by the rules then they are creating problems for others which means the library may need to close again Peggy (1:38 PM) Minocqua Library: Thanks all, I am taking note! (1:38 PM) Demmer Library: ^^^^ what Teresa said (1:45 PM) Joshua Klingbeil: It's easy to "talk about the meta" and sometimes just as easy to forget just how much effort the meta takes and how exhuasting it can be. It's good to hear these very real and concrete reminders. It's OK to expressly remind each other... and us at WVLS... just how much extra work it's taking these days just to do some percentage of what used to be "normal business" (1:46 PM) Minocqua Library: normal is not normal. (1:46 PM) Joshua Klingbeil: and say "just" as many times in one run on sentence as as you can... it drives ocd grammarists nuts! (1:49 PM) Joshua Klingbeil: You can throw me under the bus Viginia... it's meaningful I think in how our interactions affect each other and even a minor mistake can cause more challenges than a bigger mistake might have this time last year. (1:51 PM) Virginia: Not today Josh. I have been stopping busses with my body for days now. (1:52 PM) Virginia: This goes back to the forgiveness thing. We're all under stress and things happen. (1:54 PM) Virginia: Glossy pages have a trace amount of virus after 96 hours (1:56 PM) Jenny (computer): i came in late (1:59 PM) Teresa: feeling like we are maintaining instead of excelling is definitely real (1:59 PM) Teresa: really depressing (1:59 PM) Virginia: Yes (2:00 PM) Minocqua Library: and stressful that you are not doing enough (2:00 PM) Virginia: Or aren't doing what you should be doing for the library , for the community... (2:02 PM) Virginia: Thank you. Very helpful. Love the breathing under the mask, Heidi!
