Jamie's Meeting July 07, 2020 (12:54 PM) Brandon: That dogs looks so sad (12:55 PM) Brandon: Not a music lover maybe? (12:56 PM) APL: she's not a fan of this. (12:56 PM) Brandon: it shows! (12:56 PM) Jamie Matczak: She's mad because I didn't give her a treat, or I can't play ball with her, or who knows? (12:57 PM) Brandon: Maybe play "who let the dog out" (12:57 PM) APL: Jamie didn't do it. she's still inside :( (12:57 PM) Jamie Matczak: I think the weather makes her more tired (12:58 PM) APL: I agree. Naps are necessary when it's over 80 (12:58 PM) APL: or under 80 fro that matter. (12:58 PM) Brandon: Its that way for my cats, but really how much lazier do they need to be? (1:02 PM) Brandon: The dog took them as revenge! (1:02 PM) Teresa: coworkers always walk off with the best pens (1:02 PM) Brandon: A spoiled pet is a happy pet! (1:02 PM) APL: did she get her puppy cone today? (1:03 PM) Anne: is your chair sinking?! (1:03 PM) Anne: BOO make your boss buy a new one (1:03 PM) Anne: i see the slides (1:04 PM) Anne: Anne Update: I'm wearing a robe and eating cookies (1:04 PM) Anne: thats my staff update (1:05 PM) Teresa: Appreciate having the recording since I missed last week and will miss next week. Felt like I was still in the loop with others. (1:08 PM) Janay: AC all the way BABY! I hate summer and especially when it's HOT. Bring on Winter with a quiet snow storm (1:08 PM) Janay: oh in addition to this (1:08 PM) Brandon: TV for me (1:08 PM) Janay: yes Coffee maker (1:10 PM) Joshua Klingbeil: Use A/C to keep your food cold for storage and the condenser to heat up food (and coffee) to eat and drink (1:11 PM) Joshua Klingbeil: You can invert your A/C unit to pump heat into the house too in winter ... (1:11 PM) APL: ooo- can I heat the house with the oven? asking for a friend... (1:11 PM) Demmer Library: I like Josh's thinking. (1:11 PM) Anne: Please don't explode your house (1:12 PM) Brandon: Sounds like the creativity they use to encourage in boy scouts (1:13 PM) Peggy O'Connell: I would go with a stove,i cook a lot. (1:13 PM) Jenny J: opps, hit sign off instead of Mike, does my smart phone count? (1:14 PM) Rhinelander Library: Electric Teapot (1:14 PM) Rhinelander Library: I make coffee with it too (1:16 PM) Joshua Klingbeil: Refrigerator can be used in similar fashion to A/C ... basically, any heat exchanger/transfer type appliance can serve for hot and cold. A/C comes with blower fans/motors and condenser fans/motors... so lots of extra utility potential :) (1:17 PM) Brandon: I would be afraid of blowing out the motor (1:17 PM) Demmer Library: ^^ Which is why I just crawl into my refrigerator all day these days. ;-) (1:17 PM) Brandon: brilliant! (1:18 PM) APL: don't' crawl into the refrigerator.. didn't you se all those after school specials? (1:18 PM) Demmer Library: Or the Punky Brewster episode? Yes. All overblown. ;) (1:19 PM) Brandon: If it wasn't animated, I didn't watch it (1:19 PM) Demmer Library: If you're gonna suffocate to death, at least you'll suffocate to death and be cool. (1:24 PM) Brandon: What we had planned was an Easter themed escape room, but when that fell through I learned to avoid the holiday themes and use the returning to the library itself as the theme. So far the planning is going well.. (1:24 PM) APL: Ahyeah I was going to say Punk Brewster! horrary I'm not that old (1:24 PM) Rhinelander Library: http://www.rivernewsonline.com/main.asp?SectionID=9&SubSectionID=78&ArticleID=88966&TM=51495.39 (1:25 PM) Brandon: I remember Family Matters and full house (1:26 PM) Brandon: I must be prehistoric! (1:26 PM) Janay: Where do you get the list for the "top 10s"? (1:28 PM) Demmer Library: Janay re: top 10: I ran create lists in Sierra for all books in a location code and exported with number of circs. Caveat that the older the book is, the more likely it is to be in the top ten. (1:28 PM) Anne: Pam, does he know about the youth services facebook page? youth services checkin on July 15? (1:28 PM) Demmer Library: So, straight up # of circs. (1:28 PM) Janay: ahah! Thanks (1:29 PM) Jenny J: are you okay with us bowering your scavenger hunt idea? (1:29 PM) Gilman Staff: Yes, I've shared that with him but I will reinterate that to him again. TY (1:29 PM) Brandon: sure (1:31 PM) Demmer Library: I always steal ideas from other libraries. :-D (1:31 PM) Brandon: The kids appreciate alot of these activities now that so many things have been caneled (1:31 PM) Janay: UW EXtension and 4H through individual counties have "camp in a box" offered to 4h kids to check out and take home. Camp activities with the families. Kinda similar activities. Thoughts for a future... (1:36 PM) Anne: Great idea to get snacks into community, Kathy! (1:36 PM) Anne: mini- free meal idea (1:36 PM) Gilman Staff: Love idea of the craft with treat included!! We're going to give that a try!! (1:37 PM) Brandon: Right now we are handing out little bags with craft materials in them and seeing what the kids can make (1:38 PM) Brandon: Test your imagination! (1:39 PM) Anne: What about tracking time read or pages? Reading an entire book may be tough for some kiddos (1:39 PM) Janay: ages 4-6 usually are not reading themselves, the parents are reading 5 books at bedtime!! THat's our thought (1:41 PM) Brandon: Seems like the kids are mostly going for the new animated movies rather than books (1:42 PM) Anne: Worth trying "failed" programs again, it may have been just a bad day or a busy day with other organizations etc. (1:42 PM) Anne: Rhinelander and Rib Lake have (1:43 PM) Brandon: Too true, time to dig through some older ideas and seeing how they work this year (1:44 PM) Brandon: I'm having problems finding a good virtual performer. Is there a good site that other people have been using? (1:45 PM) Brandon: Sounds good! (1:47 PM) Gilman Staff: With Make & Take kits, do you cut out everything or do you just include a template, supplies and let them do the cutting? (1:48 PM) Anne: NICE on the Dollar General grant! (1:48 PM) Rhinelander Library: depends on the age group. (1:48 PM) Rhinelander Library: Thanks Anne (1:48 PM) Janay: Kathy is so good. She has it all ready for the kids to just glue or paste or tape the projects together!! Kathy is AMAZING (1:48 PM) Gilman Staff: Thank you! (1:49 PM) Gilman Staff: We don't have the staffing at this time to do all the cutting. You are very fortunate!!! (1:50 PM) Brandon: We've been including popsicle sticks, pieces of fabric, fake eyes, fur balls, buttons, etc... (1:50 PM) Janay: YES! (1:50 PM) Rhinelander Library: We have high school pages--but I bet you could ask a volunteer to do it at home maybe. (1:51 PM) Anne: Don't beat yourself up! (1:51 PM) Gilman Staff: Great Idea!!! (1:51 PM) Brandon: Its amazing what some of these kids make at that age (1:51 PM) Anne: You can only do what you can do! (1:52 PM) Anne: Maybe post links to book read alongs on Youtube? (1:52 PM) Peggy O'Connell: summer reading going well. We offer three activities each week, we have a theme, and host a virtual program like beanstalk yoga, then the kids planted a bean plant, at our outside garden, and then a take home craft. in a sense it is more relaxing because we don't have the huge numbers of people to manage in the library for in person programming. We are also doing a storywalk downtown, and we have connected with the downtown businesses and purchasing gift certificates from them. Hanging more posters around town which is new for us and making sure we get all our events to the chamber so strengthening that partnership. (1:52 PM) Anne: or book trailers? that would act like reader's advisory too! (1:54 PM) Anne: nice positives @peggy! (1:54 PM) Janay: It is the best of times and the worst of times to be a brand new Director just before a big pandemic and shutdown. All I know is my head is spinning and I am doing the best I can at connecting with the community and patrons! (1:54 PM) Anne: positives in the time of covid! (1:55 PM) Peggy O'Connell: say that tree times (1:55 PM) Peggy O'Connell: three (1:55 PM) Anne: Wow, Thank you for checking in! (1:56 PM) Anne: quite the variety of services (1:56 PM) Anne: July 15 youth check in (1:56 PM) Brandon: Yeah, they didn't mention pandemics on any of the classes I took to get my certification so it has been quite the learning experience this year (1:56 PM) Peggy O'Connell: Hear you Janay (1:56 PM) Anne: letting go of expectations and focus on quality and your capabilities (1:57 PM) Gilman Staff: We are still offering the storytimes on Mondays at 10:30 where I share a craft idea and have templates if they stop in to pick them up or I TRY to post them below in the comment section after the video on Facebook. (1:57 PM) Brandon: Always good advise (1:57 PM) Anne: deep breaths and self-care! (1:57 PM) Anne: Gosh, libraries are flexible and evolving every day! (1:57 PM) Brandon: Breath in, breath out (1:58 PM) Anne: July 15 youth checkin (1:58 PM) Anne: Performer grant for virtual performers too! (1:59 PM) Janay: what time July 15th, Anne (1:59 PM) Janay: okay thanks (2:00 PM) Anne: Check the WVLS calendar for links to virtual meetings too! (2:00 PM) Anne: https://wvls.org/calendar-2/ (2:01 PM) Rhinelander Library: Thanks everyone and Good Luck with SRP. You're doing briliantly
