The University of Wisconsin Parkside invites applicants for an Associate Academic Librarian to join our team in the Library.

The Librarian in this position provides essential academic library services—research help, instruction, program liaisonship and collection development. This position will demonstrate a good understanding of print and electronic resources, library services, and fundamental copyright law applications and the ability to introduce and explain them to the user community. The person will frequently make presentations and teach classes and individuals. This librarian will work with library technology and learn new technology and applications frequently, contributing to online instruction and support and the library applications of learning management systems, and applying instructional design. The individual must have effective interpersonal skills and work collegially in a team environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

70%  Provide Research Help and Instruction

  1. Assist users with library resources by providing reference services and determining their information needs though reference interviews in all formats.
  2. Participate in in-person and online research instruction program.
  3. Create, contribute to, and maintain online course materials and subject guides.

10%   Liaison to Academic Programs

  1. Serve as liaison to faculty in assigned areas for purposes of collection development, instruction, and reference.

10% Service to Campus and Community

  1. Collaborate with other library and campus employees and students to create programming and displays.
  2. Serve on Library teams and campus and UW System committees.

5%  Professional Development

  1. Gain copyright expertise.
  2. Maintain awareness of current trends and new professional techniques.
  3. Participate in professional development activities; attend training sessions on and off campus.

5%  Miscellaneous

  1. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge And Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of web applications and emerging technologies as they contribute to meeting the needs of students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability and experience to plan, manage and oversee projects, meet deadlines, and to prioritize work in alignment with the service goals of the library and the university
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent service to a diverse body of users, both internal and external customers
  • Ability to work collegially in small groups and a team environment
  • Ability to think critically, analyze problems, and develop and implement creative solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to independently learn new tech applications.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule for occasional campus or community events.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Training And/or Certifications

Required

  • Masters degree from an ALA-accredited library school
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations
  • Strong computer skills and ability to find and learn new programs independently.
  • Ability to work collegially in small groups and team environment
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Experience providing library research help

Preferred

  • Experience working in an academic library in any capacity
  • Experience in providing reference or instruction in an academic library
  • Experience working with a diverse, multicultural population
  • Any specialized area of interest or skill, such as graphic design, project management, XML expertise, or facility using technology to support instruction.
